The Ohio State University College of Optometry (OSUCO) has been awarded a $20,000 grant by the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation, Inc. The source of the funding is the Congress of the United States, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services and administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The grant will be used for the purpose of creating and maintaining a Student Sight Saver Program at the College. This will be accomplished by implementing a community based Glaucoma Screening Program. The OSUCO National Optometric Student Association(NOSA) will be the group who spearheads this program. Ms. Monica Roy is the president of the OSUCO-NOSA. OSUCO is one of only two optometry schools in the nation to have been awarded such a grant.

Jacqueline Davis, OD, MPH, assistant professor of clinical optometry and lead PI for the grant said, "I am excited about the potential sight saving impact that this grant will have on our community and I hope that all faculty and students will be able to join the NOSA in their efforts."

Details about the community glaucoma screening orientations will be shared in the near future.
